10 Hottest TV ships of 2016
I think we can all agree that this year had its ups and downs and I for one can’t wait until it’s time to start the new one. 2017, you’re so close! I can’t speak for much else, but this year was definitely an interesting year for shippers everywhere. A bunch of new ships came in full speed ahead, some old ones finally started sailing, and others ended far too soon. In honor of the new year approaching, let’s take a look back at some of our fan favorite ships of 2016!
Alex and Maggie – Supergirl

Despite being fairly new to the show, Sanvers has already stolen our hearts. From Alex coming out to be with Maggie to Maggie shooting her down, I can admit that I’ve already cried countless times over these two. The last episode of Supergirl had fans rejoicing when Maggie finally decided to act on her feelings for Alex after a near death situation made her realize that life is short. To quote Maggie “We should kiss the girls we want to kiss.” It looks like Sanvers is officially rolling into the new year!
Seth and Kate – From Dusk Till Dawn

Although Sethkate was always amazing, it recently spiked in popularity as the new season began to air. From antagonists to partners in crime, Seth and Kate have had an amazing amount of relationship development that kept fans on the edge of their seats. While no one knows whether their relationship will actually become romantic, the Season 3 finale had quite a few moments that hint at them being something more. With Kate now on the road alongside the Gecko Brothers, I have hope that Sethkate could finally hit canon grounds if a new season airs in 2017.
Emily and Alison – Pretty Little Liars

For years, Emison shippers have been waiting for their time to shine. With the show getting ready to wrap up its series in the seventh season, Emily and Alison had a moment in the 7A finale that has me believing in an Emison endgame. After Alison confides in Emily about her pregnancy, they kiss on the couch and fall asleep in each other’s arms. With only 10 episodes left, I would be shocked if they didn’t take Emily and Alison’s story all the way through to the end.
Fitz and Simmons – Agents of Shield

I’ve been shipping Fitzsimmons ever since I watched the first episode of the show. Best friends to lovers has always been one of my favorite tv tropes and I will take it with me to the grave. After two full seasons of waiting, Season 3 finally delivered on their romance. Although there was plenty of heartbreak and drama along the way (I hate that I love the pain), Fitz and Simmons are finally an official couple. Alright 2017, good luck trying to tear these soulmates apart!
Oliver and Felicity – Arrow

Ahhhh Olicity. After seasons of build up and tension Oliver and Felicity finally reached a point where they were blissfully happy. I thought Olicity was finally going to get the fairy-tale ending they deserved, until Felicity broke off their engagement when she discovered Oliver lied to her about having a son. Even though the two have remained friends, they’ve moved on to other people in the show’s fifth season. But this is Olicity we’re talking about! They just have to find their way back to each other next year!
Barry and Iris – The Flash

I think it’s safe to say that Barry managed to frustrate the Westallen fandom quite a bit this year. You already erased one kiss Barry, but two??? Seriously?! Stop traveling back in time and making the love of your life forget all the moments you shared! But if anyone can find each other in any timeline or any world, it’s Barry and Iris. No matter what Earth Barry ended up on, his strong bond with Iris was the one thing that always stayed the same. Now that Barry and Iris are finally together, I can only hope that the time traveling will finally be put to rest in 2017.
Clarke and Lexa – The 100

And here we have another ship that ended far too soon. After being betrayed at Mount Weather, Clarke bonds with Lexa in Polis and learns to trust her again. The two had obvious feelings for each other throughout the season, but Lexa was shot and killed nearly minutes after they finally acted on them. Clarke gets to see Lexa one last time in the City of Light, and tells her that she loves her before Lexa charges into battle and makes the ultimate sacrifice. Although Lexa probably won’t be returning anytime soon due to ADC’s filming schedule, I think it’s safe to say that Clexa’s love will live on for years to come.
Bellamy and Clarke – The 100

Many fans of The 100 have been waiting for Bellarke to happen ever since the early Season 1 days. While together in the books the show has not yet gone down that road, though there have been several instances throughout the seasons that suggest Bellamy and Clarke may be more than just friends. From antagonists to co-leaders, Bellamy and Clarke have an undeniable bond that no other relationship can match. With the show returning early next year, I’ve got my fingers crossed that when these two are finally ready to find love again they’ll find it in each other.
Alec and Magnus – Shadowhunters

Although new to televison (but based off a book series), Malec made quite an impact on fans this year. Harry Shum Jr. and Matthew Daddario really brought their characters to life on the first season of Shadowhunters. Despite Alec being initially in love with Jace, everything changes when he meets Magnus Bane. After accepting who he is and realizing what he really wants, Alec leaves the altar during his own wedding and kisses Magnus in front of everyone. I’m not gonna lie, this is my favorite moment of the entire show and I was literally cheering for Alec during the whole encounter. 2017, bring on the Malec!
Stiles and Lydia – Teen Wolf

Last but certainly not least we have Stydia, my personal favorite ship of all time. Fans have been waiting for these two to get together ever since Teen Wolf aired back in 2011. What started off as a “dorky guy likes popular girl” story, slowly transformed into a friendship that no one saw coming. As Stiles and Lydia grew up and matured alongside each other, they became each other’s rocks and confidants causing an entirely different type of romance to blossom. In the Season 6 premiere, Stiles finally tells Lydia he loves her before he is taken by the Wild Hunt and erased from her memory. Come on Lydia remember! We need canon stydia 2k17!
