Marvel superheroes matched with the characters of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘The Originals’

Do you ever just watch something and think “oh hey, they remind me of [insert name here]”? Well, that was me when I rewatched The Avengers movies. I couldn’t help but notice the many parallels these superheroes have with our favorite TVD characters. Now, it could have been the wine or the fact that I was watching these movies right after binge-watching TVD, but I knew a TVD-Marvel match-up post had to be made. So, Zina Nouhas and I collab-ed and paired each TVD cast member with a Marvel superhero!

Damon and Iron Man

I feel like this was obvious. Damon and Tony Stark are both handsome men who loved the bacherlor life until they met the right girl. They’re smart, they like the finer things in life, and they have incredible flare. Tony saves the world though he’d prefer not getting killed, just like Damon. While both men are strong and have big hearts, many think they’re airheaded and borderline unbearable. TBH, I wish they could meet. I’d love to see a series based on their bromance.

Stefan and Captain America

I believe the quote is, “The Salvatores may fight like dogs, but in the end they would die for each other”? Captain America and Iron Man butt heads constantly, but when the world is in danger, a better duo can’t be found. Stefan and Captain America are very similar with how they view humanity, responsibility, and loyalty. They’re honorable and dependable. Plus, look at that hero hair.

Katherine and Black Widow

These ladies are extremely adept at manipulation and they get stuff done. Black Widow is currently a force for good, but her past is checkered and I’m sure she was a lot like Katherine. Black Widow can knock a man flat in 15 seconds and Katherine is no damsel in distress. These ladies are fierce, intelligent, and capable of wrecking major mayhem.

Elijah and Klaus with Thor and Loki

Two brothers, two very different personalities. Elijah and Thor care for their siblings no matter what. They believe in them and disregard the fact that they’re not full-blooded family. Elijah and Thor keep their word and are universally liked. They’re well respected for their classiness and their ability to squash their enemies.

Klaus and Loki are the villains we actually love. At this point, it’s just a fact of life. Who doesn’t enjoy their snarkiness? Anyways, both men have had troubled childhoods thanks to family and feeling like they don’t belong. They also found out (rather horribly) that their parents aren’t exactly who they thought they were. Honestly, if you take out the extra details of their stories (like being a god/hybrid) you’d have a pretty similar outline.

Rebekah and Ms. Marvel

Rebekah with Ms. Marvel works because both ladies are fiercely independent and self-reliant. They’re both strong females who can hold their own in their very male-dominated superhero/vampire worlds. Not only do their femininity and strength match, but they’ve both fought battles with their haunted pasts. Rebekah and Ms. Marvel would probably become really good friends.

Caroline and Captain Marvel

Before Ms. Marvel became Captain Marvel, the title was given to Monica Rambeau. Rambeau was a police lieutenant who could transform into energy. At some point she needed help with her powers and a stranger (wink, wink) advised her. Caroline Forbes is not a lieutenant, however, her mother was a sheriff and the love for justice doesn’t just die out. Both Captain Marvel and Caroline are strong individuals who are incredible leaders. Caroline is a ball of energy and when she first transitioned into a vampire, she needed assistance. Stefan helped her control her hunger and her transition was arguably one of the smoothest (if you skip a few dead bodies) and quickest. Even as a vampire, Caroline is a whirlwind of wonder. How she currently balances motherhood, a job, and fighting evil, I don’t know.

Bonnie and Storm

Bonnie would be great with Storm because both ladies are selfless, nurturing, and protective of their loved ones and friends. Not only that, but both ladies have proven that when they are angry, they are not to be messed with! Bon-Bon would definitely love Storm!

Alaric and the Hulk

Okay, there were two options for Alaric: Hulk and Wolverine. I haven’t seen a Wolverine movie in ages so, the Hulk it was. Plus, there are a lot of similarities between the two. Bruce Banner hated his Hulk alter ego as much as Alaric hated his vampirism. Also, Alaric has dealt with brutally killing others without remembering a thing or being in control. Both men are intelligent and are actual professionals. They love to research and don’t care too much for their powers. Alaric just happened to luck out with becoming human again.

Elena and Jeremy with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver

Elena and Jeremy would be perfect with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver as both are siblings (so obvi, this is perfect). The duo could fight baddies together and show off their badass skills! It would be fun to see the siblings interact. Don’t you think Elena and Jer would love Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver? Side note: did anyone else feel that twinge of “aww, the simpler TVD times” when they saw this pic of the Gilberts?

Matt Donovan and Spider-Man

Matt Donovan doesn’t have any superpowers, but his background is similar to Peter Parker’s. Matt and Peter both lost family members and don’t have many left. They’ve also seen the loves of their lives tragically die (RIP Penny Ares and Gwen Stacy). Both men love keeping their cities safe and they definitely value humanity and goodness.

Tyler and Daredevil

Okay, so for those of you thinking he should’ve been paired with Wolverine, hear me out. Tyler Lockwood triggered his werewolf curse and from there had a hundred issues. However, the most important thing about Tyler is his care for others. He acts all tough, but in reality, he’s just a big ole softy. Daredevil is blind and gave those without sight a superhero they could relate to and admire. Tyler spent a good deal of time helping other wolves learn how to control their transitions and helped break the sire bond between hybrids and Klaus. So, while Tyler and Wolverine both have claws and other similarities, Daredevil takes the cake. Plus, I think Tyler would approve.

Well, folks you’ve reached the end of our post and we hope you enjoyed it. Zina and I love TVD and The Avengers, so making this piece was tons of fun! We also think there should be more female superhero movies because they are definitely lacking in that department. Women can kick butt and fight crime just as much as any man. I mean, let’s look at Black Widow. Luckily, Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson is set to premiere in 2019!
