‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8: Is the final season off to a good start?

The Vampire Diaries season 8 will be its very last season ever, so it’s incredibly important that the show ends on a high in order for it to have a well-deserved send off. With the end near, storylines and character development will soon be wrapped up, which makes it both an exciting and nerve-wracking experience to go through as an avid watcher. Characters we have become attached to for many years will soon come to an end, and we will no longer be able to live their lives alongside them *sobs*. But it will also be bittersweet as we will finally be able to see (well, we can hope) happy endings for all the characters we have adored since 2009.

Maybe our dreams will come true for what we want to happen — maybe it won’t — but one thing I can say is that it’s a ride I’m glad to have been on. TVD has rocked my world, and I will be incredibly heartbroken when it’s over. However, I’m also very excited to see what will happen next for the stars of the show.

TVD season 8 may have only just begun, but it has certainly came back with a bang and seems promising! Whatever happens on the show, us TVD fam can stick together and get through the emotional wrecks we will be once it’s all over with. It truly will be the end of an era! #TVDForever!

Same, Elena. Same!

Let’s discuss what’s been great so far about the season’s first couple of episodes:

  • It’s going dark

We’re only two episodes into the new season, but there has already been throats slit, mass murders, and a crazy mind-controlling villain who’s on the war path to kill many more. This whole dark aura around the new season is exactly what the show needed. In a world of supernatural beings, it only makes sense that we see more of the scary and gruesome sides of it, because quite frankly, aren’t vampires meant to be dangerous?

  • Focusing on important relationships

With it being the last season and all, it’s good to see the show focusing on our original characters and their relationships with each other instead of diving into complex stories with side characters. For example, in 8×02, “Today Will Be Different”, it was nice to see girl time with Caroline and Bonnie when Bon-Bon lets out all her emotions about feeling worthless and unwanted. I can’t wait to see more of this focus on friendships, and of course, all the romantic relationships of the show like Bonnie and Enzo, Caroline and Stef, etc.

  • Going back to basics

TVD is always good, but there is no denying that the first few seasons (especially season 3) was its prime time. I think with the show coming to an end, it’s even more important now that it sticks to basics and goes full circle. Just like how in the season 8 pilot, we saw Damon back to his old ways as he hunted down his human blood-bags. It really gave the episode a season 1 feel which was really nice. Also, isn’t it funny how Caroline wanted Stefan in season 1 and now in season 8, they are fully together? As I said, full circle baby! I hope to see more of that as season 8 continues.

Honestly, I’ve been loving TVD season 8 and can’t wait to see more! The episodes so far have really hooked me in and left me craving more. I cannot wait to see the amazingness that Julie Plec and the crew have come up with for the last season!
