‘The Flash’: 8 West/Allen moments that fuel the ship

TheFlash season 3 premiere is just around the corner, and we’ll finally get to see the repercussions of Barry’s decision to save his folks by turning back time. Whatever the consequences, one thing we know for sure is that Barry and Iris will sail into the new season as complete strangers. Well, not exactly complete. Barry will remember everything from the previous timeline,  including the epic kiss and mutual confirmation of love that ended season 2. Iris, on the other hand, will be completely clueless.

Fortunately, West/Allen shippers will be able to draw on past experiences until the destined-to-be-married duo discover each other again.

Here are 8 golden moments on which shippers can reflect to ease their temporary suffering.

1. The necklace

In the first season, Barry and Iris decide to exchange Christmas gifts a little early. Iris opened hers first and found a replica of her mother’s wedding band. Nothing says you mean the world to me like remembering that your best friend was devastated when she lost her mom’s wedding band on a field trip to the zoo in the fifth grade. Way to rack up bonus points, Barry!

2. The confession

The same year Barry gave Iris the super meaningful gift, he decided it was time to profess is undying love. It was truly a heart-melt moment.

“When we were kids i loved you before i even knew what the word love meant.” —Barry Allen

Barry admitted that he wanted to tell Iris so many times, but he was afraid if the feelings weren’t mutual, he would lose her.

That’s the irony. I was so afraid of losing you, that I did.” — Barry Allen

It was a moment West/Allen shippers had been yearning for. It was, however, bittersweet. Barry admitted that his timing sucked and acknowledged Iris’ relationship with Eddie. Then he left. The important thing, though, is that he said it. He put the truth out there. She knows. It was an epic declaration, and the shipper-verse collectively wept.

3. The spark

As soon as he touched her, she knew. Her face said it all. She had felt that spark before when Barry had touched her sans suit. And it was that spark that led her to declaring to Barry that she just couldn’t stop thinking about him. We loved the spark!

4. The first kiss

Iris sorta kinda told Barry she loved him, too. Sorta. Kinda. Then they kissed.

And the shipper-verse cheered!

But nothing gold can stay. Barry reversed time to save his surrogate dad, and in doing so, everything that was said or done leading up to that point was forgotten to everyone except Barry. That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, though. No take backs!

5. The video

For me, this act symbolized true love. Barry could see Iris hurting and unable to move on after losing Eddie. On one of his time rewinds, Barry made a point of getting Eddie to record a video clip talking about what Iris means to him. It had to be hard for Barry to accept that Iris still had very strong feelings for Eddie even though he was gone. But all that mattered to Barry was helping to ease Iris’ pain.

6. Holy matrimony

When Earth 1 Barry descended upon Earth 2, he stumbled into a reality that made shippers universally jump for joy. On Earth 2, Barry and Iris are married.

It doesn’t matter that it was an alternate reality. They are married. It is meant to be. It will happen on Earth 1 just as it has on Earth 2, and until it does, we will cling to the memory!

7. The Force can’t have you

After Barry agreed to be the primary target of a reboot of the particle accelerator explosion, Iris told Barry that no matter what happened, it wouldn’t change the way she feels about him. Of course, no one anticipated the explosion would suck Barry from his corporeal existence right into the speed force. Once there, everyone at Star Labs was in a quandary as to how to bring him back, if that were even possible. Barry wasn’t sure, either, whether or not he was going to be trapped within the force. It was Iris’ voice, and his love for her, that brought him home.

8. The last kiss

So, it wasn’t technically the last kiss. But it was the last kiss of the season, and most likely the last one we’ll see for a while. Once again, Barry and Iris professed their love for each other only to have Barry rewind time leaving only him with the memory of what went down between them. Here’s hoping the memory is enough to sustain him. This time, Barry went back so far that when he stopped, he found himself in a world where he and Iris don’t even know each other.
