‘The Girl With All The Gifts’ trailer brings new life to the zombie genre

Zombies are returning to the big screen. A breath of fresh air is coming from The Girl With All The Gifts which has a new take that could help refresh the genre.  Okay, so they aren’t technically dead shambling corpses that can’t walk as fast as you, but they are infected by a variation of a very real and scary fungus called Ophiocordyceps unilateralis which produces the need to feed on human flesh.

Hidden away in an underground bunker, Glenn Close plays a scientist who leads a team that is trying to fund a cure for the infection. The facility houses a group of children who are infected but also have some control over their humanity. Gemma Arterton plays a teacher who works to educate these children as the scientist study them. One of these children, Melanie, played by newcomer Seenia Nanua, is infected but unlike the others she can remain in control instead of going rabid.

The movie is based on M.R.Carey’s novel of the same name which you should consider reading since no U.S. release date has been announced.
