‘Westworld’ comes to HBO

Did you all catch the trailer for Westworld during last night’s Game of Thrones? If not, I get it. I’m still trying to catch my breath from those battle scenes. No spoilers here, but check out this recap if you want to relive it.

Now, on to Westworld!  The Nerdist described it as ‘Game of Thrones with robot cowboys,’ which is right up my ally. Check out the trailer to see if you agree.

The series is based on a 1973 movie written and directed by Michael Crichton, as in Jurassic Park Michael Crichton. The concept revolves around a theme park called Westworld. Guests can play pretend gunslinger against robots programmed to not, well, ACTUALLY murder the guests.

You all have SEEN Jurassic Park, right? So, you have an idea of how well that programming works, right?

From what I can see in the trailer, these humanoid robots begin to buck more than just their no-kill programming. They start to examine bigger issues of existential existence, an awaking of their consciousness, and everything that goes along with that. Oh, and there is a sh*t ton of murder-y violence and sex.

It also gives us the acting beauty of Anthony Hopkins as the WestWorld creator. Add to that Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, James Marsden and Hunger Games’ star Jeffrey Wright, and you have more than enough star power to give this show the cred it needs for at least an initial watch.

Executive producers include Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy and the Star Trek reboot team of Bryan Burke and J.J. Abrams.
