‘Valerian’: Set photos and plot revealed!
Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan are set to star as a pair of time-travelling agents in the new upcoming sci-fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. And, director Luc Besson is determined to tease audiences by posting onset pics on his Facebook. The most recent of which sees the stars on-board a spaceship apparently called the ‘Intruder’.

The movie is based on a French graphic novel series by Pierre Christin, and the cast, just like the film’s backdrop, is star-studded. Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, John Goodman, Clive Owen , and Rutger Hauer will also be co-starring. The most we have on the plot of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets so far can be found on IMDb.
Based on the graphic novels, the story will follow Valerian (Dan DeHaan) and his love interest Laureline (Cara Delevigne) as the accept a mission from their Commander (Clive Owen) to maintain galactic peace. This mission takes them to the out-of-this-world intergalactic city of Alpha, which is a growing metropolis where a variety of species from all four corners of the universe congregate and co-exist. With its seventeen million inhabitants, all of varying skills, knowledge and technology, comes a region of Space equipped to serve the entire universe. However, where there is great power there is always a greedy, bitter villain looking to turn the tables. Within the depths of Alpha lurks underground forces working against the betterment of the universe, thus, risking the survival of our race.
Luc Besson is most known for his 2014 film Lucy and 1997’s The Fifth Element, so he’s well-adept at the sci-fi genre. I didn’t particularly enjoy Lucy, his most recent film, but perhaps with the guidance of a graphic novel this film will have a bit more structure plot-wise. Besson has deemed Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets “the biggest challenge” of his career.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will be in cinemas July 17, 2017. Let us know in the comments if you’ve read the graphic novels, or are just excited by the prospect of another exciting sci-fi film!
