‘Legends of Tomorrow’ recap: 1×10 “Progeny”

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ recap: Season 1, Episode 10, “Progeny,” Aired April 7, 2016

Hello, Legends! I would like to start out with my favorite quote, from last night’s episode. Sara Lance confronts Snart about talking to Rory:

“Stop being an ass and go deal with it!”

Last night’s episode featured most of the characters having heart-to-hearts. Here is how they played out.

Rory and Rip

Legends of Tomorrow

At the beginning of the episode, Rory is locked in a cage in the Waverider. Rip comes to visit him to apologize about failing him as a leader. Rory’s response: He will kill him, when he gets out. Good ole Rory. At least he is consistent.

Ray and Kendra

In this episode, the gang travels to 2147. In 2147 we learn Palmer Tech has built an army of Atom robots to police the city. Ray finds out the woman in charge of Palmer Tech is his great-great-great-great granddaughter. This means Ray has a child in 2016, that he is unaware of. This revelation shocks Ray to his core and he is devastated.

On the other side of the ship, Kendra is having flashbacks of Carter. The flashbacks tell the story of Carter and Kendra raising their son Aldous while fleeing from Savage. Poor little Aldous was never going to have a normal life.

Neither Ray nor Kendra tell each other what is on their minds which causes friction between the two throughout the episode. I have to admit, I am on board with this ship. Later in the episode, Ray figures out he does not have a child. It turns out that Ray has a brother! I repeat, Ray has a brother, and his name is Sidney. Can you believe it? Who doesn’t want two Palmers? Ray and Kendra end up talking to each other and work things out.

Rory and Sara

Sara visits Rory in his cell and explains to him that she believes he can change. Sara proceeds to tell the story of her and Snart being trapped in the corridor. As she tells Rory, even when they were about to die, Snart still spoke of Rory. Rory shows no interest in the story, so Sara leaves. (Is everyone under the sun going to visit Rory, except for the person who should be visiting him?)

Rip and Baby Hitler

Baby Hitler? Let me explain.

The crew is in 2147 to stop a key player in Vandal’s rise to power. What is his name? I have no idea, and neither did the characters. None of the characters could even pronounce his name correctly (so we will here-forth call him Baby Hitler.) Baby Hitler is Vandal Savage’s pupil. Baby Hitler’s father, Captain something-or-another, rules the city. Baby Hitler acts as Vandal’s soundboard and will ultimately seal his rise to power. What is the team’s great idea to stop Baby Hitler? They argue to either kill or kidnap him. Rip and Snart believe they should kill him and the rest of the team does not.

Ultimately, Rip makes the decision for them and flies off with Baby Hitler. They land on a plain of grass next to a river and have a chat. Rip tells the boy not to trust Vandal, and the boy replies that he can still change his ways and be more like his father. The boy explains that his father is weak and that they will all regret kidnapping him. Rip is about to shoot the boy, but decides not to (Rip is batting zero, on this whole saving the world thing), and takes him back to the Waverider.

The Trade

Legends of Tomorrow

Baby Hitler’s father and the Atom robots battle the team for the boy. Vandal catches Sara and puts a knife to her throat. Baby Hitler’s father promises they can leave if they give him his son back. Rip trades Baby Hitler for Sara.

The team goes back to the Waverider and Gideon announces that the timeline remains the same. Savage will still rule the world and Snart and Rory finally have their discussion.

What did you all think? Do you think Rip should have killed Baby Hitler? Do you think Snart and Rory will be okay? Will one of Rip’s plans ever work?

Tune in next week for a Western showdown and Jonah Hex!

My love of all things supernatural came from my first time watching ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and has expanded into a wide range of shows. I love all things ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow', 'Supergirl', and ‘Legacies', to name a few. Traveling, cons, and beaches are three of my favorite things!
