Woman Crush Wednesday: Meet Danai Gurira
It is an honor to present today’s Woman Crush Wednesday (#WCW), Danai Gurira. This incredible woman is best known as the katana swinging Michonne on one of PureFandom’s favorite shows, The Walking Dead.

She defines #FIERCE. Michonne has long been a fan, and personal, favorite on the show. Seriously, she holds all that sh*t together which, let’s be honest, in a zombie apocalypse, isn’t the easiest. And then she casually does things like this:

Right?! Crush worthy to the extreme. I can tell you all about Michonne, but she was also one of our fiercest women on TV so you can get all the details on her awesomeness here.
Smart, powerful, inspired to make the world she lives in better … and I’m not describing Michonne — that is Danai.

While she was born in Iowa, she lived most of her life in Zimbabwe. She speaks four languages, teaches acting in several African countries, and uses her fame to share stories about powerful women.
Early in her career, she co-wrote and acted in an off-Broadway production called In the Continuum, a story of two women who’ve contracted AIDS and how they dealt with the disease and the world around them. The play won several accolades, including an Obie Award.
Danai is also an ardent activist for the environment, continuing arts education in Africa, and works with the ONE Campaign fighting extreme poverty and disease.
This woman is already one of the best on TV. Her next turn, beyond being a positive force in this world, is on the big screen playing the mother of Tupac Shakur in the biopic All Eyez on Me.
Also, Norman Reedus j’adores her. And if this outtake doesn’t make you laugh and love her more, I’m questioning our friendship … and you want us to still be besties, right? #LYLAS

Let’s hope Michonne keeps on surviving the zombies so we can see this particular WCW doing her thing week after week because, after this season finale, I think they’ll need her.
Cheers, Danai. You are a fierce, wonderful actress and woman – definitely Woman Crush Wednesday material.
In case you missed it (really?!), you can see Danai owning some zombies, and my little ole’ heart in The Walking Dead on AMC, Sundays, 9/8c.
