‘Lucifer’: 7 reasons why Maze is the best side-demon that a devil could want

In this week’s episode, “Sweet Kicks”, Lucifer embraced his inner daredevil and sought out new experiences much to Maze’s displeasure. She wants him to be careful. She wants them back in hell where she know’s he’ll be safe and back to his old powerful self. Lucifer would rather hang out with his “pet”detective and officially consult for the LAPD.

1. Mazikeen is a badass warrior woman … er demon … minion? Demon.

Lux’s head bartender has quite the repertoire. Famed for her mad torture skills back in hell, and she’s pretty badass with the hand-to-hand ninja fighting technique. She’s scary good and confident, whether she’s protecting Lucifer from warring gang members or taking her war of words with Amenadiel to the next level.

2. Blazing hot chemistry with the men in her life.

Maze has been at Lucifer’s side for several millennia and clearly it hasn’t always been business or devil/minion between the two. Lucifer is clearly distracted by his ‘pet’ detective and evolving mortality. There are moments when Maze is ready to lean in for that kiss, but unfortunately for Mazikeen, Lucifer just doesn’t seem all that interested. Still, the embers of what was have a healthy enough glow.

Luckily, Maze does have other options. More forbid options which…damn are the best kind. Lucifer’s brother, Amenadiel. Sure, he’s an angel and she’s a demon, but these two are fire and must not be wasted. I’m all for Lucifer/Chloe pairing and there is absolutely no reason to leave this gorgeous demoness pining for what she can’t have with the boss man when there are other intriguing options.

3. Maze brings a whole new definition to “ride or die”…

Vacation from hell that’s lasted five years. Check. Boy, is she ready to go home, but she’s not leaving Lucifer’s side for anything. No matter that Lucifer’s embracing long forgotten humanity and suddenly and inexplicably vulnerable to bullets and a certain, pesky lady detective. Where Lucifer leads, she gladly follows. Okay…she may be scowling or snarling, depending on what idiotic thing Luci’s done next.

4. She’s loyal to a fault….mostly.

So what if she told Amenadiel about Dr. Martin, Lucifer’s new therapist/sex buddy. Yea, Lucifer will be beyond pissed that his favorite minion is working with his brother who wants nothing more than for Lucifer to go back to hell. So what if she paid Chloe a late night visit filled with all kinds of menace. She even broke out her demon-y face, but she disappears before Chloe sees her. Luci definitely won’t be happy about that overstep either. She’s loyal in that her every move is to keep Lucifer safe, even from the threats that he can’t see coming. She’ll protect him even when he’s being an asshat.

5. She goes to coffee shops just to torture the barista and soak in the misery from the local patrons.

Granted, said torture includes ordering her morning coffee and using her real name, Mazikeen. Of course, it comes with the name “Mike” written on the side, but it’s fun watching the barista squirm under Maze’s unrelenting glare. She gets her morning jolt not from the caffeine, but the tortured, LA writers crowding the coffee shop every morning, pouring all of their hopes and dreams into words on the page. She gets off on their failure or so she tells Amenadiel when he shows up to flirt with her…er get information on Lucifer.

6. She’ll protect this beautiful, snarky bastard no matter what, even from himself.

The fun and games that was their “short” vacay on Earth took an impossible turn. Her boss, the big and bad devil himself has not only started to give a damn about the humans around them, but he’s changing and not for the better in Maze’s opinion. He’s embracing his humanity and inner daredevil at the worse possible time. He’s vulnerable to actually being wounded, and the idea thrills him to no end. He’s not worried about dying in a hail of bullets thanks to Asian gangbangers or any number of threats, because he knows Mazikeen has his back no matter how much he snarls and hits her with the glowy eyes.

7. Maze’s snarky one-liners are rivaled only by those of Lucifer himself.

The demoness is one witty chick that knows just how hard to push the devil. She’s also smart enough to know when it time to back off. Here’s hoping her gamble with Amenadiel pays off for the better, and  that they continue their flirty back and forth.
