‘Grimm’ Gala raises $386,000 for Portland children’s hospital

The cast and crew of NBC’s Grimm gave the folks at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon, an extra special Valentine’s gift this year by raising $386,000 for the Grimmster Endowment at the second annual Grimm Gala. The hospital gives families hope, and the endowment helps relieve some of the burden of stress while those families pursue that hope. The money raised goes to patients and their families to help cover the cost of uncompensated travel, lodging, and a variety of other services that make it a little more comfortable for families while their kids are being treated.

The Gala, which was presented by Comcast and NBC Universal, generates money through sponsorships, individual ticket sales, special appeal, and auctions held at the event. This year’s event was sold out.  And why wouldn’t it be? Awesome cause. Awesome actors supporting it. The Grimmster Endowment is the brain child of  Sasha Roiz, who plays the awesome Capt. Sean Renard.

“The cast and I have so much fun with these amazing, brave and strong kids.”

Grimm is filmed in Portland, and Roiz said in addition to supporting the children and families who rely on the hospital for services, the gala, as well as the support provided through the endowment, are the cast and crew’s way of giving back to the community.

“The Grimm Gala is a celebration of the Portland community. We are really engaged with this community, which always welcomed and supported us.”

Those lucky enough to score a ticket to the event had the chance to bid on Grimm merchandise specifically designed for the gala. One of those items was a pair of shoes created by Nike’s legendary shoe designer, Tinker Hatfield.

The shoes, which are obviously a collector’s item, were autographed by Hatfield as well as Michael Jordan, and the cast of Grimm. How freaking awesome is that?

For those who pooh-pooh the use of social media, $65,ooo of the $386,000 was raised through an online auction on omaze.com. Among the prizes auctioned off were various props from the set and visits to the set with the cast to be transformed into a Wesen.

The Grimm Gala is a once-a-year event. If you’re sorry you missed it, it’s not too late to make a gift donation to the cause. Props to the cast and crew of Grimm, Comcast and NBC Universal for doing their part to make a difference. Our favorite stars always shine brighter when they choose to use their powers for good.
