What Nina’s been up to besides the boyfriend-twitter fiasco

UPDATE 10/22: Since this post was published, it was released that Nina Dobrev will also star in the rom-com, Crash Pad.
By now, most of you have heard about Nina Dobrev’s new boyfriend Austin Stowell forgetting to follow her on Twitter, and vice versa. But, let’s remember that these two individuals are actors and so much more than their relationship! Amidst all the hoopla, let’s focus on more important things like Dobrev’s career and her advice for others.

Nina currently has a film out called The Final Girls and, well, it’s a refreshingly different and interesting piece. Max (Taissa Farmiga) is a senior in high school who, with her friends, somehow ends up in the 1980s horror flick, Camp Bloodbath. The gang has to not only survive the homicidal maniac in the movie but also find a way to get back home.
Dobrev plays Vicki, who isn’t the nicest person in the world, but has a heart. Nina recently had an interview with Collider and explained why she chose the role, “I gravitated toward the Vicki role because she’s the mean girl, but she’s the misunderstood mean girl that ultimately we learn to love and understand. I’ve never had that opportunity before.”
She even talked about career goals, saying, “I want to keep moving forward, and keep being inspired and scared. I feel like, if you’re not afraid of something you shouldn’t do it. If you’re just coasting through things, what’s the point? You’re not learning.”
She also gave some solid advice during the interview, “People should take notes from the Europeans and balance out work and play. You should work to live, not live to work.” After resigning her role of Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries, Dobrev has been seen taking vacations and hanging out with friends. “I do think it’s important to be smiling and not make it all about business. You’ll look back and regret it later if you don’t take advantage of your youth and your ability to travel.”
While attending the sixth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, Dobrev gave Instyle some more advice for female fans about life:
“Have fun, be silly, be carefree, only listen to whatever you want to do and don’t listen to other people because it doesn’t matter. It’s what matters to you and what you believe in and what makes you happy and what makes you smile that will get you through the day.”
Luckily for the entire universe, Nina seems to be getting back into the grind. Deadline reported a new film Dobrev will be starring called The Arrivals, alongside Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams and Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game). Dobrev’s character is a flight attendant called Izzy, who is the love interest for Butterfield’s character, Calvin. The movie is centered around Calvin going on an adventure where he takes on his fears, bucket-list style. There’s also an unannounced aka super-secret project Dobrev is working on that she can’t talk about but says she will have to cut her hair for it.
Nina and her boyfriend may have forgotten to follow each other on Twitter, but let’s be real, they’re busy people. It’s always exciting when your favorite actor has heart-eyes for someone, but don’t let it overshadow their accomplishments and person. Dobrev is all about being happy and true to yourself. She’s an inspiration, and it’s awesome how vocal she is about self-love. The Final Girls is currently in theatres, VOD, and On Demand. The Arrivals begins shooting in South Africa this winter and for the secret project, I’ll be on the look out for more information.
