The boys are back! Well, at least their fan favorite and familiar faces are back. Alan Tudyk (Wash, Firefly) and Nathan Fillon (Mal, Firefly) have reunited to star in the former’s crowdfunded web series, Con Man. The Vimeo OnDemand comedy was crowdfunded via indiegogo.com earlier this year, and raised nearly $3.2 million.
Con Man centers on Wray Nerely (Tudyk). Nerely starred in a beloved and canceled-too-soon sci-fi TV show, Spectrum. Well, that sounds familiar, no? Spectrum’s former star is a frequent guest at sci-fi conventions and comic book. Jack Moor (Fillion) is Nerely’s former Spectrum co-star, who has pretty much blown up and gained the celebrity that Nerely always craved.
The first four episodes of Con Man dropped exclusively on Vimeo’s OnDemand service on Sept 30. The remaining nine episodes in the web series will be made available three episodes at a time over the next three weeks. The next batch of episodes will be available for viewing on Oct 7.
Tudyk wrote and directed the project which features not only the Firefly alum, but other familiar faces that are basically the “Who’s Who” of sci-fi. Among the show’s early guest stars are Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: TNG), Felicia Day (The Guild), and Sean Astin (LotR).
What about the rest of our beloved Firefly crew? I can hear you asking. Gina Torres and Sean Maher will have significant roles in this first season with the other former cast members (Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, and Ron Glass) dropping back for cameos which will be further explored in the next season. Other notable sci-fi guest stars also appearing in the web series include Battlestar Galactica’s Michael Trucco and Tricia Helfer, as well as The Walking Dead’s Emily Kinney.
Gorrammit, this is truly the best news in the ‘verse since Serenity, the series’ feature film which just celebrated its 10th Anniversary. Hit the comments below with your Browncoat love or other actors you’re hoping to see at some point during Con Man’s run.
