Blood Drive recap: Season 1, Episode 5, “The F***ing Dead”, Aired Jul. 12, 2017
This week on Blood Drive, we see a different side of everyone. Also, more than we ever wanted to. Arthur’s family jewels may never work right again.
We see Julian in rare form with this old style television show from Heart. We say old style, but with what we know about Julian, it could’ve actually been in the 1950’s. Julian is living the dream with wife and son included. Even nice teeth! But don’t worry, the show we know and love makes it’s reappearance as a group of undead burst into the house. They attack Julian’s wife and son as he calmly mixes his drink.
Violent interrogation tactics
Grace beats Julian’s face into a new shape as Arthur looks on calmly. So that’s how it is, huh? I knew Grace wore the pants. Julian pleads ignorance about Kane Hill even as Grace shows him the photo. But she still isn’t getting anywhere, so Arthur takes over. He also wants to know why everything seems connected to Heart. Julian’s responses lead to a wrench aided right hook from Grace. So they still don’t have answers as Grace points the restless crowd out to Arthur.
Arthur dons Slink’s garb and takes to the stage. Things go as well as you’re picturing. A few party goers take to the stage with the intention of getting Arthur off it. But the man is nothing if not skilled at fighting, so he is able to dispatch them easily. Arthur realizes this is what it takes to entertain the masses, so he continues. He challenges everyone to try to take a swing at him.
Grace continues trying to get information out of Slink with a hit to where it counts. But all she hits is metal. Well, that’s not normal. Julian reveals that a higher up at Heart has plans for Grace and Karma. Before Grace can question him further, he gets a whiff of bad news. Literally.
Jack and Diane
A set of twins waltz into Mayhem as though they just jumped off the screen of “The Slinks”. Apparently, they’re there to kill Slink because they blame him for the death of their loved ones. Since Arthur is the one on stage, they believe him to be the one they’re looking for. So, obviously, they’ve never met Julian before.
Things get worse as the siblings begin kissing people in the crowd and infecting them. We learn it’s something called the Dionysus Strain. It was apparently given to the twins’ father by Julian. He then infected his wife and kids. But the two seem to be immune and are the only survivors of their town. Obviously, it has also brought them closer. Incestuous relationship, coming right up.
Stage 1: Euphoric Abandon
Everyone begins sleeping with those around them. While this isn’t different than the usual actions of the ravers, it’s a bit more frantic. Then Arthur’s lips are attacked by two infected women. Well, that may complicate things as Julian and Grace just agreed to set everything else aside to take the twins down. But I guess it’s down to Julian and Grace. Oh no.
Stage 2: Bluege
This strange and thick blue substance begins leaking from everywhere. I mean, literally. Every orifice of every person’s body and every surrounding surface as well. It starts looking like blue glow sticks exploded as the eyes of the infected start also glowing blue. I don’t want to know what the substance is. Just looking at it has given me enough nightmares.
Barbie in distress
Jack and Diane head towards Arthur, still thinking he’s Slink, to take him and kill him, when Grace stops them. She explains who he is as Arthur gets grabby. When they realize their mistake, they take off to find the real Julian Slink. While Grace is left to get through to Arthur. Translation: a well placed knee. A few more of these are required as Grace and Arthur figure out how to stop the virus.
Julian informs Grace the only way to get a cure is to get into the lab next door. They have to find the formula and gather everything required and make it themselves. Grace sends Arthur to handle this as she figures out a way to lure the infected to the warehouse.
Stage 3: F*** Each Other to Death
This one is self explanatory. We watch as the infected start doing just that, along with getting violent with each other. By that, I mean ripping each other’s limbs off.
Meanwhile, Arthur figures out the cure comes from body fluids produced when Jack and Diane get busy. Grace immediately takes charge and convinces the twins to give in to their urges. Julian pushes them into a machine eerily similar to the blood engines at the opportune time. Grace disconnects a hose and sprays the infected down with the cure.
Julian holds up his end of the deal and tells Grace where she can find Karma. But that’s not all. He also rerouted the race to go by the facility
Christopher on the inside
Christopher may have reached his limit with Aki if hiding under the table is any indication. But Aki assures him she is there to show him his fixed eye. Not sure fixed is the right word. Aki puts him to work as a mail boy. But after using his eye to see proof Arthur didn’t abandon him, Christopher tries to worm his way into a security position so he can get information.
