8 songs we’d like to see on the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ soundtrack

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is just around the corner, and we here at PureFandom couldn’t be more excited! With the new movie comes the new soundtrack. And let’s be honest: who didn’t love the first movie’s soundtrack?? In the United States, the album reached the top of the Billboard charts. Not to mention that in the first movie Star-Lord’s singing basically saved an entire planet.

So let’s chat about “Awesome Mix Vol. 2.” The soundtrack is set to be released on April 28 and will likely feature some, if not all, of the three songs used in trailers. This includes a David Bowie song on the album as a tribute to the late singer. In addition to that, director James Gunn said “Come A Little Bit Closer” by Jay and the Americans might be on there as well.

So what about the other songs? We have a few ideas. Here are some of our top picks. And check out the Spotify playlist with all 12 songs at the end!

1. “Band on the Run” – Paul McCartney and Wings

The Guardians are definitely a band of misfits, so this song couldn’t fit better. Even though they have a little bit more experience being heroes now, they all were on the run at some point in their lives. Plus this is three songs in one so you really can’t lose.

2. “Mississippi Queen” – Mountain

Let’s add some harder 70’s rock to the mix. With these awesome guitar riffs, it’s easy to picture our heroes fighting swarms of bad guys to this song. Also, it might just be us, but we could totally see Chris Pratt rocking out to this one in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

3. “The Joker” – Steve Miller Band

With a first line like “Some people call me the space cowboy,” there’s no way we could’ve left this song off the list. It might be a little too laid back for the Guardians, but it would be a great opening song. We got a great one last time, and this song wouldn’t disappoint.

4. “Stuck In The Middle With You” – Stealers Wheel

Like it or not, the Guardians are pretty much stuck with one another. We feel like this song is a great way of describing their relationship. This would be a fun closing song.

5. “Barracuda” – Heart

Another classic rock song! We think this one would’ve been great for a trailer, too. Fast guitar and powerful vocals make this song an epic choice that would fit Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 really well.

6. “Baby Come Back” – Player

Let’s slow it down a little. This is a 70’s song that almost everyone knows at least a little bit of. Plus, we could totally see this in a scene with Star-Lord and Gamora. After all, their relationship is getting more serious. We’re so ready.

7. “Slow Ride” – Foghat

Arguably one of the funniest scenes from the first movie was the Guardians’ slow motion walk down a hallway after Rocket proclaims them “a bunch of assholes.” They put the cliché to good use and make the moment funnier. Here’s to hoping that there’ll be another slow-mo moment, and this song will play.

8. “Fortunate Son” – Creedence Clearwater Revival

We’re finishing off our picks with a song that could fit very well with the Guardians’ initial reluctance to be heroes. They all went through rough times and they have to use what they learned to save the galaxy. And honestly we’re better off for it.
