Shadowhunters recap: Season 2, Episode 2, “A Door in the Dark,” Aired Jan. 9, 2017
Last night’s episode of Shadowhunters was jam-packed full of action. All the characters played their own individual roles and I thought everyone managed to fit into the story perfectly. I had just come home at 1am from a 10 hour workday barely able to keep my eyes open, but the moment I started watching I was wide awake. I loved the episode that much. So with that being said, let’s dive in!
So Clary is (understandably) pretty upset that Jocelyn tried to kill Jace. To make Clary understand her reasoning, Jocelyn tells her what we found out last episode. Jace was injected with demon blood before he was born. As we saw in a flashback, Jace definitely would not win the “sweetest baby” award.
Clary’s identity crisis
Alec is still angry over Jace and basically blames everything on Clary. He tells her that she doesn’t belong in the Institute and makes her question her role in the world. Luke and Jocelyn find her sketching the city in an art studio and just acting pretty down. She tells them that she’s not a mundane and she’s obviously not a Shadowhunter either, so who exactly is she? Clary wants to go back to the way her life was before her 18th birthday.
The Lightwoods kick some ass
Izzy and Alec spend their day visiting all the fight clubs in the city and waiting for Valentine to show up. One man in particular seems pretty keen on taking Isabelle home and erm…”showing her some moves.” Needless to say Izzy had it covered and the man was on the ground in the blink of an eye.
Magnus-Simon Team Up
Raphael makes his first appearance this season and tells Simon that he needs to find Camille. Scared for his life, Simon seeks out Magnus for help. The two portal to India (a method of transportation that Simon’s not loving) and look for her there. While they come up short, Simon does finally get to use his “encanto” on a fire breathing snake.
When they get back to New York, Magnus tells Simon that no one was there for him when he needed it, so he’s going to do his best to make sure Simon doesn’t feel alone.
Dot takes Clary on a boat ride
As Clary’s leaving the art studio, Dot (who was assumed dead) appears and portals her onto Valentine’s ship. Clary finds Jace and tells him that she can see the future and well…it ain’t pretty. I was extremely confused during this entire conversation, until we later realize that Dot had put a spell on Clary and was controlling everything that she said. After some begging and some sentimental words, Clary convinces Dot to lend her a hand.
The search for Clace
In order to find Clary, Jocelyn goes to Alec and gives him a special stone that connects him to his Parabatai. Desperate to save Jace, Alec accepts the high risks and tries to find them. After using the stone, he sees that things aren’t going too hot for Jace and Clary back on the boat. On top of that, Jace somehow starts feeling everything that Alec is feeling. Alec is last seen seizing on the bed, while Clary and Jace jump off the boat and make a swim for it. Honestly, this whole last scene was just WILD.
